CCTVal researchers participated in the organization of the second Chilean Symposium on Boundary Elements Methods
The activity was organized by the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics of the University, and was attended by relevant foreign exponents.
Researchers at the Valparaíso Technological Science Center held the first Electronics Workshop for Particle Detectors
In a day specially designed for undergraduate students in the area of electronic engineering, a group of researchers from the CCTVal basal center of the UTFSM, carried out the first workshop focused on the development of electronics for the manufacture of particle detectors.
CCTVal participated in the realization of the third version of SUMMIT USM 2018
The event focused on digital transformation was carried out during the month of November at Casa Piedra in the city of Santiago and brought together prominent national and international exhibitors in the areas of artificial intelligence, 5G, IoT and energy transition, among others.
A team from CCTVal has participated in the development of the Wireless Communications Guide for Open Pit Mining created by Intercorp Company.
With an emphasis on the areas that present the greatest challenges in the open-pit mine telecommunications, the new Wireless Communications Guide covers issues such as: network design and mine piloting tests.
"Science Month" of the USM will include multiple activities for citizens
Talks, interactive exhibitions, guided tours and exhibitions are part of the program that the Institution will offer in October, which will run until November in Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción.
CCTVAL starred in an episode in the third season of the program "Exploradores: del átomo al cosmos" of the channel 24 Horas.
The Scientific Technological Center of Valparaíso ( CCTVAL), center that belongs to the Technical University Federico Santa María, makes important contributions to the development of science and technology through physics, engineering and electronics.
In this chapter Iván Schmidt, director of the center, will talk about the important achievements that have allowed to position this team of Chilean researchers at an international level. The work, carried out from Valparaíso Region, contributes to the regionalization of the country, which is also part of its institutional policy.
The premiere of this episode, from the third season of "Explorers: from the atom to the cosmos", will be broadcast on the Canal 24 Hours of TVN network, and will air live on Wednesday, September 12 at 4:30 p.m. In addition, three more issues during the week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The topics of the reports that will be presented in this chapter will be:
Ultra light mirrors, a new technological product
Can mirrors be made from carbon? How can ultra-light mirrors open up new possibilities for science? In this report we will learn about the Mirror project that was born thanks to the collaboration that the center maintains with Jefferson Lab., one of the most important physics laboratories in the United States, which has led them to design and manufacture carbon fiber mirrors that can be used in particle physics experiments.
Physics laboratory under Andes mountain range
Can science go one step further thanks to a new road work? The construction of the Agua Negra tunnel, that will be located at the Coquimbo Region and will connect Chile and Argentina, could be the perfect opportunity to boost scientific development in Chile. This is ANDES, a project that proposes the construction of the first underground laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere, located 1700 meters underground.
Chilean researchers support 5G technology development in the US
Are Chilean researchers contributing to the forefront of telecommunications? The Bell Labs research center, currently part of the telecommunications company Nokia, has placed its trust in a group of Chilean researchers for the CCTVal center, to measure wireless channels that will be used for the future voice and data transmission systems, better known as 5G.
