Representatives of the Asociación de Industrias Metalúrgicas y Metalmecánica met with CCTVal counterparts to move forward on an Industry 4.0 collaboration agreement

The Centro Científico Tecnológico de Valparaíso (CCTVal), under its work plan to create links with the Industrial and productive sector through agreements that promote the development of projects related to Industrial Internet of things and Industry 4.0; was visited by a delegation from the Asociación de Industrias Metalúrgicas y Metalmecánicas (ASIMET).

After the awarding of a project co-financed by the Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (CORFO), Asimet has created the Centro de Extensionismo Tecnológico (C.E.T.) for advanced manufacturing, with emphasis on the Metropolitan and Bío Bío Regions. The objective of the Center is to boost the industrial restructuring process of the national metallurgic and metal mechanic sectors by implementing measures to improve the sector’s competiveness and productivity, which represents just 2% of the country’s GDP; well below the percentage reached by the same productive sector in developed countries.

In this context, Asimet is setting up a center to promote the development of the manufacturing industry in the metallurgic and metal mechanic sector. Eliana Manríquez, Manager at the Centro de Extensionismo, explains, “The Center´s objective is to generate impact on the Industry given that the manufacturing sector, in the las few years, has been deeply affected by various macroeconomic and social factors”.

Based on all of this, Asimet and CCTVal will begin the process of building linkages between them in the near future, as Eliana Manríquez points out, “That is the main objective. I think that we are well on our way, we have been able to understand CCTVal´s record of accomplishment and we would like to reach a successful agreement so together we can drive and generate a positive change in this sector. We mainly contacted this University’s Scientific Center because of its development of IOT applications focused on various areas of the Industry”.

The agreement with CCTVal implies giving support to companies associated to C.E.T. through the development of IoT technologies, including Communication and Monitoring systems for Industrial processes; development of sensors or technology integration; productivity Dashboard development, among others.

Additionally, this agreement entails generating initiatives that seek to improve the productivity of companies in the metallurgic and metal mechanic sector by the development of technological innovation projects. Thus, the signing of a first collaboration agreement is expected to take place within the next thirty days, as stated by the C.E.T Manager, “the next step is seeing business proposals and move forwards on this path so we can, hopefully in the short term, concretize a solution and reach a working agreement”.
