For a second year in a row, Valparaíso will host the conference cycle: TEDx Plaza Sotomayor, which seeks to introduce development driven examples of the Valparaíso Region and the country, to the community. One of the invited speakers is Claudio Dib, academic of the Physics Department and researcher at the Centro Científico Tecnológico de Valparaíso (CCTVal), both belonging to the Federico Santa María Technical University.

The event will take place this Thursday, September 7 at 6:30 pm at the Parque Cultural de Valparaíso, through the joint organization of IF Valparaíso 3IE, Fundación Piensa and Fundación para el Progreso , where the prominent academic will give details about A.N.D.E.S. (Agua Negra Deep Experiment Site), a joint initiative promoted by scientists from Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico, who propose the construction and implementation of a world class underground laboratory at the interior of the soon to be built Agua Negra tunnel, which will be located between the Coquimbo Region (Chile) and the San Juan Province (Argentina) at 1,750 meters deep.

Dib, an expert in theoretical particle physics, is the national coordinator of A.N.D.E.S., and member since 2007, of the Chilean group collaborating with CERN in the ATLAS project. Likewise, he has been a member of Conicyt’s Physics and Astronomy study group, and in TEDx Plaza Sotomayor, he will be able to tell the audience his experience, a faithful representation of how first rate science is developed in Chile.

The event will also count with the participation of Vicente Toskana, Director of MusArt Casablanca; the prominent writer, Roberto Ampuero; Carolina Aguila, a biotechnologist awarded with a NASA scholarship; the researcher of Fundación Piensa, Guillermo Pérez; and the telemedicine expert, Carol Hullin.

The initiative´s objective is to gather as speakers, people with a will to succeed and determination to achieve success in the area they represent. Likewise, all of them personify ventures and initiatives framed within the Valparaíso Region’s ecosystem, finding a place from its own authenticity among the rest of the regions of the country and the world.
