Young researchers and undergraduate, master's, doctoral and post-doctoral students from La Serena, Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción met at the USM Central House at the first Meeting of Students and Postdoctoral Researchers of Particle Physics.

In order to generate a space for dialogue and dissemination, the Department of Physics and the Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaíso (CCTVal) of the Federico Santa María Technical University, held the First Meeting of Postdoctoral Students and Researchers of Particle Physics in an activity that held in the Hall of Honor of the house of studies in Valparaíso.

The event brought together young researchers, undergraduate, master's, doctoral and postdoctoral students from La Serena, Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción with the aim of generating an opportunity to discuss the state of art of particle physics, in both, theoretical and experimental areas.

The event were divided into two days, where the first consisted in sessions of plenary talks giving by experts on topics such as: dark matter, Higgs physics, neutrino physics, experimental physics and quantum chromodynamics. In the afternoon, the participants had the opportunity to share and present the result of their research with the rest of the community.

In the instance, the plenary session was given by Claudio Dib, Director of the Department of Physics of the USM and principal investigator of CCTVal, on the Andes Laboratory initiative (Agua Negra Deep Experiment Site). The initiative seeks to concretize the construction of the first underground laboratory in this hemisphere, that will be located at 1,700 meters underground, inside the Agua Negra Tunnel; work that will cross part of the Andes mountain range and that will unite the borders of Chile with Argentina, taking as reference the region of Coquimbo, on the Chilean side, and the Province of San Juan, on the Argentine side.

Regarding the benefits of having been part of this meeting, Dib commented that "the students could know each other, know what others and what they are doing, the interests they have, things that they do not know yet and could interest them, in addition to assessing and disseminating the work they are doing; this type of event will allow them to form a sense of community ".

About the activity, Andrea Torrejón, a Physics graduate student at the University of La Serena, commented: "it is very positive that events like this are made of an specific topic in physics, because that way you can do more profitable things. Collaborations can be generated in a more direct way because you do not have to go to a congress, where they expose everything, to go listen to brushstrokes of topics, instead you are determined to come to see something that already interests you and know more about that".

"I like to have contact with people from other cities because I know that collaboration is the main path to success in the scientific world. We were given the opportunity to come to the meeting and we had to take advantage of it ", Torrejón added.
