On behalf of the university the Office of Technology Transfer and Licensing, organized the participation and attended the event, next to the Advanced Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (AC3E), the Scientific Technology Center of Valparaíso (CCTVal) and the Center for Environmental Technologies (CETAM).

In order to publicize the work that is done at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in an event focused on the development of the energy sector and its related industries, both nationally and internationally. The campus participated in the Expo Energia 2018, organized by the Electroindustria magazine, at the Plaza Hotel The New Forest Las Condes in Santiago, Chile.

More than 600 professionals belonging to companies linked to the areas of energy, mining and industry, visited the USM stand where they spoke with the representatives of the OTTL ande the centers of the university, to generating contact in order to establish links between the academic world and the private sector.

Carlos Vera, Manager of the OTTL commented that the projects created in the university were disseminated at the event, and are available in the new version of the USM Technology Portfolio at the following link: www.ottl.usm.cl/portfolio-de -technologies-usm

The engineer also stated that, as a unit, they observed a great acceptance on the part of the industry. "We have been able to make known the capabilities we have in the applied technological field. We are very happy with the experience of positioning ourselves as a knowledge generating entity that delivers concrete solutions to current problems", he said.

Basal Centers

For Rodrigo Pacheco, Manager of CCTVal, "this invitation made by the OTTL had the purpose of bringing us closer to the energy sector, one of the most important sectors for the country and therefore, as a scientific-technological center we have much to say and to show from the point of view of the scientific advances that we have achieved. We want to increase the confidence generated between the private world and the university to provide concrete solutions that improve the different problems that the different productive sectors of the country could present”, he said.

For his part, Freddy Flores, ACE Energy KAM, said: "The objective of our presence at the Energy Expo was to make ourselves known as a center, demonstrating our capabilities and demonstrating to the industry that technological development can be done in the country. We are focused on nurturing knowledge about university research through different groups and how to transfer that know-how, that is why this ecosystem opens the doors to expose how through the academy can impact on the industry".

After being consulted for his opinions regarding the Energy Expo, Francisco Cereceda, Director of CETAM, mentioned: "It was an excellent alternative to promote the different lines of research developed by our center. All this, in terms of the patenting of technologies and the capabilities we have, which highlights the line of research on pollution and combustion, with a special focus on the problems associated with the combustion of biomass, ie firewood, stubble, pellets and pellets HTC ".

Circular economy

For Karen Yáñez, a CETAM researcher, the Energy Expo allowed her to verify that there is a significant number of companies interested in developing R & D and add value to their waste, "but at the same time there is a lot of misinformation about what is done in the University, the possibilities of financing joint projects and the R & D Promotion Law in the company. In this sense, the university has a great challenge ahead, which is to spread more and better, what we do and the possibilities of collaboration with the industrial sector.

The Doctor in Chemistry, also noted that "this makes much more sense, due to the existence of the REP Law, which forces industries to take charge of their waste, which added to the current trend of advancing the concept of the circular economy encourages companies to consider waste as byproducts that should be revalued and in this CETAM has a great experience and therefore an important opportunity to develop projects with the industry ".
