Talks, interactive exhibitions, guided tours and exhibitions are part of the program that the Institution will offer in October, which will run until November in Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción.

In order to bring its scientific work to the whole community, and to join the celebration of the National Week of Science, Federico Santa María Technical University, is developing a series of activities that will run throughout October and part of November.

Throughout this period, fairs, exhibitions, talks, seminars and competitions will be organized to bring people closer to topics such as: astronomy, robotics, electronics, physics, Computing and technology, among others, culminating in the third version of the event Summit USM, that will be focused on innovation.

In this regard, Darcy Fuenzalida, Rector of the USM, emphasizes that "as a university focused on the areas of engineering, science and technology, we wanted to share with the community a series of initiatives of interest that are part of what we have defined as " USM: Month of science " and that includes a large billboard of activities for the diverse public".

The university authority states that "our professors, students and researchers participate in important projects of regional, national and international relevance, which have even been distinguished with important recognitions, and it is this task that allows us to be one of the best universities country. We will represent this throughout this month".

On Friday, October 12, the Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaíso (CCTVAL) will show in a double session the laboratories where they manufacture pieces that will be installed in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN, which is considered the largest experiment in the world. The schedule of this activity is from 10:00 to 11:00 and from 15:00 to 16:00.

The activities will continue on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 October, in Valparaíso and Concepción, within the activity of Puertas Abiertas, an event aimed mainly at high school students and where the University, through various activities such as interactive exhibitions, demonstrations of experiments and guided tours of its departments, presents the thematic diversity of its scientific work. In Santiago, meanwhile, this event will take place on the 18th, 19th and 20th of the same month.

Also in October, the challenges of the research on the process of planetary formation will be one of the topics that the open talk on astronomy, that the PhD in Physics of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Amelia Bayo, invited by the AstroUTFSM group, will dictate in the Salón de Acts of the T Building of the USM on Thursday 18.

Technological challenges

Two days later, at the Chile Telephone Tower, located in Santiago, the USM will produce the first version of the Droid Festival Santiago 2018, a technological event aimed at design, development and other experiences related exclusively to the Android platform; a technical meeting for specialists who want to know successful experiences in Chile and the world.

The last activities that the USM will carry out during October, will be focused on the promotion of the participation of women in science, technology and engineering. On the 23rd and 27th of the same month, Girl in Tech will hold two days that will include a meeting of scientists, workshops, fairs and talks, highlighting the participation of Barbarita Lara, innovator of the year in Chile and awarded by the MIT Technology Review as a of the most important under-35s in the world.

On the other hand, with the aim of encouraging the development and research in robotics, the University will hold Robotics Week on November 15, 16 and 17; event that will house the second version of the Innovation and Robotics Fair, the Fourth Robotics and Neurosciences Congress and the 16th Robotics Competition and the National Final of the Interscholastic Educational Robotics tournament.

Finally, this series of activities will culminate with the third version of SUMMIT USM, that will take place at Casa Piedra on Tuesday 20, November. The reunion brings together public and private entities to address the digital transformation of the industry, through collaboration with the academy and the incorporation of technologies to their different processes or portfolio of products and services.

The theme of this year will be the "Current panorama, major changes and new challenges of the modern industry, addressing the digital transformation and new technologies implemented in its processes, boosting its productivity and improving their results".
