A delegation from the Andes University visited the USM with sights on a future collaborative partnership

Important advances for the USM as part of the experiment seeking to explain the origin of the Univers

A team from the Campus’ Scientific and Technological Center of Valparaiso (CCTVal), participated in the manufacturing of parts for the sTGC detectors which showed satisfactory results during the last evaluation carried out at CERN, in Switzerland, positioning Chile as a pioneer and only nation in South America currently producing these devices.

Mirror Project, Manufacturing of State of the Art Technology from the V Region for High Energy Physics

Our country has become a world class astronomical center, reflected in the major observatories situated in the desert, like ALMA and proximately, the largest optical telescope proposed by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope), intended to be built on the Armazones Hill in the Antofagasta region and it will count with a primary mirror measuring 39-meters in diameter, turning it into the world’s largest optical-near infrared telescope. This kind of project, translates not only into a relevant advance for research, but also represents an opportunity for technological development; since most of the parts that make up these mega structures are manufactured abroad by highly specialized suppliers.

William Brooks, Researcher from CCTVal, leads Chilean ranking of researchers with greatest impact

The list gathers the 882 scientists currently working in the country, sorting them by the impact of their papers, measured through the number of citations obtained from their publications according to Google Scholar Citation’s data base.

Chilean-American delegation from the Defense department visited USM’s Basal Centers

Representatives from the Defense Ministry and Armed Forces from both countries toured the AC3E and CCTVal at the Campus, as part of the plenary meeting of the 2016 USA-Chile Subcommittee of Science, Technology and Logistics. The occasion was geared to explore the possibility of future alliances.
